Crew Team

The other night I had about an hour to photograph 50 kids.  I set up my lights in a hallway of a brand new public library, told each kid to take a seat on a stool I had brought.  I set up a white portable backdrop behind them.  They had all come from a long day of school and hadn’t dressed for the occasion.  I needed to move fast, find the best angle, and get them to laugh if I could.  Here are some pictures…I’d love to do more jobs like this one.  Fast and fun!

Kareem Abdul-Jabbar came to Woodrow Wilson High School this week to talk to the kids about his new movie, On the Shoulders of Giants. He showed twenty minutes of the film, which centers on the Harlem Renaissance — “the best basketball team you never heard of…” And he answered students’ questions for about half an hour. Before the show, I sat in a small room with him. He was funny, sweet, and tall. He talks with his hands. What a great experience!
