Wilson High’s Varsity Four Man Boat was smoking on the Schuylkill River today. They were 9th out of 56 boats in the time trials!!!! Super impressive. Now they’re resting up for the semi-finals tomorrow. Go Tigers!

On Saturday, thanks to my lovely friend Sandy, I had the opportunity to photograph women with their pets for a calendar called Critters for the Cure. The women all share the experience of breast cancer. We met in a park in the Kentlands at nine o’clock in the morning, a perfect time to shoot, with diffused back light adding to the beauty of the women and their furry companions. My husband, Rick, played a dual role — reflector man and model. His is the only photo that I can show, because the rest are embargoed until the calendar is published in October. In the meantime, I was thinking about what I shoot and why. I can see my love in Rick’s face. And for the rest, to me, my work is about relationships. There always has to be a connection between me and my subject, and another within the group of people I am shooting. Last Saturday, when Rick was sitting for me, I was energized by the generosity of his participation and his helpfulness. And when the women came, they were all so upbeat, affectionate to each other and their pets, that the pictures reflect happiness, even though they were all facing personal challenges. I love the gift of documenting how family and friends connect, and I always have my camera nearby, so keep me in mind while the weather is mild, and everyone is enjoying being outdoors.

A People Person
Posted: March 15, 2013 by Judy Licht Photography in Children, People, Portraits, SportsThe other day, I met Matt at his house as he was finishing lunch. His house was filled with campaign workers and friends inputting data on computers. We drove around the corner to photograph four friends of Matt’s wife Lena, who are very excited about supporting his council race. Matt sat down in a chair in the sunroom in the midst of the group, and while it was a modeled shoot — there was nothing phony about the conversation. Matt is a great listener, engaging and entertaining, and though the session was about him, at each shoot he focused more on the real-life people he was talking to than he did on the camera. A politician who can multi-task while the spotlight is on him. Pretty impressive.
A Cut Above!
Posted: March 14, 2013 by Judy Licht Photography in UncategorizedMatt Frumin made the cut with Dupont Circle’s barber to presidents — Diego D’Ambrosio. His shop on the corner of 19th and Q is a historic landmark — and has been for the past 30 years. It was teeming with customers around 3 in the afternoon, but Diego put down his scissors and embraced Matt, throwing his support behind him in the DC Council Campaign. Just under the photo of Diego with the Pope, he shook Matt’s hand and posed for photographs. Love the sign in the window, too.
