A People Person
Posted: March 15, 2013 by Judy Licht Photography in Children, People, Portraits, SportsThe other day, I met Matt at his house as he was finishing lunch. His house was filled with campaign workers and friends inputting data on computers. We drove around the corner to photograph four friends of Matt’s wife Lena, who are very excited about supporting his council race. Matt sat down in a chair in the sunroom in the midst of the group, and while it was a modeled shoot — there was nothing phony about the conversation. Matt is a great listener, engaging and entertaining, and though the session was about him, at each shoot he focused more on the real-life people he was talking to than he did on the camera. A politician who can multi-task while the spotlight is on him. Pretty impressive.
Teens Living with Cancer
Posted: June 13, 2012 by Judy Licht Photography in Children, General, Portraits, Sports, TeensWhen teens are fighting to overcome the challenges of cancer, it’s hard to find the time, energy, or motivation to exercise. Teens Living With Cancer (TLC) is a national organization, based in Rochester, NY, that has organized a fitness program, geared to young people struggling to get well. The goal of the program is to build confidence and physical strength and well-being. The program is expanding to the DC area this fall.
One afternoon, a group of kids met me at the Bethesda YMCA. Trainer Nola Murphy brought exercise equipment and moved the kids through some fun activities. For me, it was great to capture smiles and laughter as they mugged for the camera. For them and their moms, our hour together was a respite from the rigors of doctors’ visits and listless days recovering from treatment. Quick Turnaround
Posted: June 4, 2012 by Judy Licht Photography in General, People, Portraits, TeensThursday morning at 7:30, the party planner emailed with a request. Photograph the Bar Mitzvah boy that afternoon between 4:30 and 5 and turn his portrait into a Warhol poster. Shooting Levi was the easy part. Finding a local printer to turnaround a mounted 20 x 20 print in one day (Levi’s party was Saturday night at 7) was the first hurdle. Figuring out how to Warhol the photograph turned out to be more challenging than I had anticipated. I had an image of Marilyn Monroe quadrupled with bright colored backgrounds, but it wasn’t until I googled photoshop Warhol that I realized it would take a lot more attention to detail than I had time for to duplicate the master. So I winged it, and here’s what I came up with on short notice…a bit of Warhol and Lichtenstein combined.

Great Weather for Family Portraits
Posted: April 24, 2012 by Judy Licht Photography in Children, General, PortraitsOnce the gloomy winter is over, it’s time to get out in the park and photograph your family. Mothers Day and Fathers Day are right around the corner, and every parent and grandparent loves a framed picture of the kids. My go-to place is Rock Creek Park — there are so many wonderful spots to stage portraits. Last winter vacation, I brought my family — even our pup — to one of my favorite overlooks. Love how all my kids, and even Roxy (who is barking up the wrong tree, of course) are right in character. Email me at judylicht@comcast.net to schedule a shoot.
